Auberge Chesley's Inn
Luxury meets history in Ontario's Oldest Inn
Bed & Breakfast Description
Chesley's Inn was built at the end of the War of 1812 by Allsaints Chesley, a veteran of the war. It was used as an Inn through much of the 19th century and was then converted into a private home. By the early 2000's it had fallen derelict. In 2013 it was purchased by Robert Prowse who has lovingly restored the building while adding the latest conveniences in terms of new bathrooms with rainforest showers. The Inn is proud to highlight local food. Our bacon is from chemical free, free range Berkshire hogs. It is smoked the traditional way and is a great way to start the day. Eggs are farm fresh as are many of the jams and preserves served with breakfast. As well as traditional breakfast fare, there are alternatives like homemade waffles with blueberries and maple syrup, fresh scones and a variety of cereals, cheeses and fruits for those looking for something lighter.
The great rooms of the Inn are available for guests and also provide a great location for small weddings and meetings. The gardens surrounding the Inn are also chemical free and provide a quiet place to relax and enjoy the flowers. There are three guest rooms in the main Inn. In the rear wing, there is a separate two-bedroom apartment complete with kitchen, living room and a private entrance. It is called the Innkeepers Quarters and welcomes families with children and/or pets.
The Inn is located in the heart of Cornwall, one of Ontario's oldest European communities. The St. Lawrence River is a block away and is lined with beautiful parks and cycle trails. Pitt Street, also a block away, has a variety of restaurants and outdoor patios offering a range from pub food to fine dining. And if you order a bottle of wine with dinner you can finish it - and walk back to your room!
