Welcome to Omstead's on Erie, Wheatley's lakefront bed and breakfast

... a vintage cottage on the beaches on Lake Erie's north shores ...

Bed & Breakfast Description

Margo and Keith Omstead extend a warm Wheatley welcome to you at our 1926 Craftsman Tudor Revival beach cottage.  Set on almost an acre of lakefront property, with a wide private beach, we think our bed and breakfast will give you a perfect late afternoon at the beach, a luxurious sleep in an ensuite bath bedroom, and then a delicious breakfast to start you off on your day.

We have revived this architectural treasure of a cottage sympathetically and sensibly, with particular attention to collecting furnishings and accents of a vintage nature that are perfectly applicable to current everyday living, alongside the comforts and luxuries of a first class bed and breakfast.  Breakfast in the lakeside sunroom, or, on warm summer mornings, on our breakwall patio, with views of Point Pelee and Wheatley's fishing tugs heading out for their workday, is an opportunity to experience a serene and delicious start to your day.

This old cottage is not centrally air-conditioned.  We have high effficiency fans in all the common rooms and the guest suites have a combination of a/c window unit and intake/exhaust fans in both of the large windows in each room.  Generally, the fans guide fresh lake breezes to provide a very comfortable sleeping ambiance, but we do get a few days each year of heavy heat and humidity.  Therefore, both suites have the window a/c unit as well.  Whether you need your room air-conditioned or the fans along are perfect, both provide comfort and a subtle white noise for a great night's rest.

Location-wise, we are perfectly situated for you to tour southern Ontario - birders have Point Pelee and Hillman Marsh Conservation areas, oenophiles can tour the picturesque North Shore boutique wineries, history and ancestry buffs can visit the Freedom Trail site of North Buxton National Museum, fishing enthusiasts can contact charter boats at the Wheatley Harbour to reel in perch, pickerel (walleye), trout and salmon and there's a multitude of golf courses in Wheatley and the surrounding area.
